Huchuy Qosqo to Machupicchu – 3D/2N

3 Days, 2 Nights
Cusco, Machu Picchu
Difficulty: Moderate
Max 12 people

Tour Overview

The 3 day/2 night Huchuy Qosco trek is a really enjoyable and not too challenging option that combines spectacular mountain views, the original Inca trails, a community visit and a guided visit to the little known Inca site of Huchuy Qosco which is located in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. By getting off the beaten path, you get away from all the crowds of the more well-known treks, but still get to enjoy all the amazing things Peru has to offer. The Huchuy Qosco trek is perfect for those on a short time frame or looking for an easier hiking route.

Day 1: Cusco - Tambomachay - Qenqo

Pick up from the hotel at 05:00 am, we will begin our hike in Tambomachay, just outside of Cusco, our path takes us through high passes, valleys and small communities. With large expanses of grasslands and small lakes (dry in some seasons), the area is home to a wide variety of birds, including Andean geese, partridges and lapwings, as well as a variety of birds or prey, all of which are regularly seen throughout the country.

Our target for today are the Andean villages of Patabamba and Siwas located near a small lake (it dries up in some seasons). Patabamba is a traditional Andean community with a small school and a small plaza; located high above the Sacred Valley, the people here still maintain the customs and traditions of times past and most villagers earn their income from farming and herding llamas and alpacas. As only a few tourists come here, the people are always intrigued to see who has come to visit their village and welcome them with open arms.

Day 2: Qenqo - Huchuy Qosco - Lamay - Aguas Calientes

Today has two main focuses, learning about the customs and culture of the Andean people and a visit to the Inca site of Huchuy Qosqo. Waking up early, our guide will take us to one of the houses where we will meet a local family. The people are incredibly welcoming and as eager to learn about you as you are about them, they don’t get many visitors to this area and are always interested in meeting you.

After the visit we will head to Huchuy Qosqo. The route follows an original Inca Trail that leads us through a beautiful isolated valley that is full of native plants, flowers and birds. It really feels like another world compared to the high grasslands we have left behind. In total, it takes approx. 2.5 hours to reach Huchuy Qosqo and after a rest and enjoy the views of the Sacred Valley, you will have a guided tour of the site to learn about the Inca people and their culture. In the afternoon we drive into the Sacred Valley to the village of Lamay where we take a bus to Ollantaytambo and then a train to Aguas Calientes.

Day 3: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

Upon waking up early, we will take the first bus back to Machu Picchu to enter the site when it opens. We will have a 2-hour guided tour of the site during which you will learn about the Incas and visit all the most important areas of the citadel. After your tour, you will have free time to explore the site yourself and if you have permits to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain. In the afternoon, you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo from where you will continue by bus back to Cusco.

Ahead of the crowd and thorough. My wife and I truly enjoyed the journey Ruben took us on through the Sacred Valley. He was extremely informative, patient and accommodating. We will remember the tour for a long time. Also, Ruben really was ahead of the crowd as he took a route that got us to most of the sites before the crowds formed. So much nicer without the crowds. Thank you Ruben for a wonderful day.

Unforgettable experience thanks to David Condori Having David as my guide back in October was the best experience of my life. David made sure to make a connection with every guest, and I was lucky enough to become good friends with him. He is so fun and youthful, but can also lock in and be serious while spreading his wonderful knowledge about the Inca’s and Peru’s rich history. 10000/10 experience

Great Salkantay 3 night trip to Machu Picchu If your looking for a guide for the Salkantay trek, David is your guy!! We did the hike with him in April 2025 (3 nights track) and it was honestly the highlight of our hole trip. David is so knowledgeable about the mountains and really looked after us the entire time. He's such a genuine person and made the hike feel like we were just out with a friend who happens to know everything about the mountains. Make sure you are somewhat fit as the track is partly challenging due to the height.

Awesome guides This review is a little bit delayed but we are writing it for David, who is an amazing and caring guide. He looked after someone in our group that was unwell and then once he had helped them return he trooped on and still gave us his all. Cheers David!

You couldn't ask for a better guide! I went on a 5 day trek on the Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu as part of a 4 week expedition with school. I was lead teacher. How lucky were we to have Ruben as our guide! Firstly, he is such a lovely soul and so easy to get along with. Safety was always his priority and we never felt out of our comfort zone. He knows the area like the back of his hand, and his knowledge of the local flora and forna is second to none. Also, he is an accomplished musician, and whipped out a homemade flute which he played along a trail one day. All in all, we couldn't have asked for a better guide. Highly recommended.

Laguna Humantay with the best tour guide! I thoroughly enjoyed the Humantay Lake tour with David! The tour actually began the night before, as David called to make sure each passenger felt comfortable and prepared for early pick up the next morning. This especially meant a lot to me as a female solo traveler. The tour was excellently executed and ran very smoothly. After arriving by car to the base of the mountain, we began the lovely hike. David went out of his way to teach us about the animals and plants we went past, as well as telling us about Incan history. He even gave us the opportunity to participate in a small thanksgiving to Pachamama with stones next to the lake. The hike itself was manageable, especially with his expert guidance and flexibility if we needed assistance. And it was so worth it for the stunning view of the lake in the mountains! We were given the perfect amount of time and freedom to admire the scenery at the top and take pictures before heading back down. I highly recommend visiting Laguna Humantay for a day trip with a mix of nature and history/culture, and I recommend booking it with David. Thanks for a great experience!
